There was once a man who saw an empty piece of land
He decided that he liked the empty land
He raked, weeded and planted her soil
He put much love in what he did
The owner of the lot saw the man’s great effort
He offered to sell the man the land
The man pondered, never buying, but always tending
Day and night the man kept raking, weeding and planting
One fine day, the man’s efforts went into full bloom
Many saw just how beautiful the land had become
Many became interested in the land; the man growing green
The man could have just bought the land; but something kept him
Fear or pride, nobody knew of his empty reasons
One day, a different man decided to buy the land, in cash
He promised the owner to love and tend the lot
The owner, thinking of the man who kept effort, agreed to sell the land
He was saddened to sell the piece of land to someone else
But better be owned by someone who promised to love it
The man was happy of his purchase; gloating in glee
The man who raked and weeded found out that his beloved land had been sold
He rushed to the owner and demanded that he be sold the land
The owner smiled sadly and said, “Young man, you are too late.”
“Although you loved and cared for the land, you did not decide on it,”
“You did not decide on what you wanted, on what you needed.”
The man came home in frustration, thinking how much time he wasted on the land
He realized, a little too late, that he needed that piece of land
He realized that he should have owned it and fenced it immediately
But instead he chose to waste his time and effort
Now the man is only left with the memories of his beloved land
