Lesson to be Learned

There was once a man who saw an empty piece of land
He decided that he liked the empty land
He raked, weeded and planted her soil
He put much love in what he did
The owner of the lot saw the man’s great effort
He offered to sell the man the land
The man pondered, never buying, but always tending
Day and night the man kept raking, weeding and planting
One fine day, the man’s efforts went into full bloom
Many saw just how beautiful the land had become
Many became interested in the land; the man growing green
The man could have just bought the land; but something kept him
Fear or pride, nobody knew of his empty reasons
One day, a different man decided to buy the land, in cash
He promised the owner to love and tend the lot
The owner, thinking of the man who kept effort, agreed to sell the land
He was saddened to sell the piece of land to someone else
But better be owned by someone who promised to love it
The man was happy of his purchase; gloating in glee
The man who raked and weeded found out that his beloved land had been sold
He rushed to the owner and demanded that he be sold the land
The owner smiled sadly and said, “Young man, you are too late.”
“Although you loved and cared for the land, you did not decide on it,”
“You did not decide on what you wanted, on what you needed.”
The man came home in frustration, thinking how much time he wasted on the land
He realized, a little too late, that he needed that piece of land
He realized that he should have owned it and fenced it immediately
But instead he chose to waste his time and effort
Now the man is only left with the memories of his beloved land

Realizations for 2012

Clouds have rolled in and the rain has fallen. There were many things that happened this year that I never expected to happen. I wasn't prepared for this. I was left to grope in the dark. So here are my realizations while I pondered on the events that have transpired over the past 12 months.

1. You don't know the people you know even if you've known them for years.
People reveal their true colors during difficulties. People you once thought were your friends leave you hanging when you're in distraught.

2. A little kindness goes a long way
Learn to smile and say thank you even when you are in the face of adversity. Always approach people with kindness, you never know when this kindness will be reciprocated. The people you've been kind to will also be kind to you. Especially to nurses, be kind to the nurses caring for you, you never know when their kindness could save you from pain and financial expenses.

3. Free food is always the best
I realized that free food is the best during the days when I wasn't able to eat for more than 20 hours because I didn't have any money on me or I didn't have enough will-power to go out of the hospital room. Food is always sweeter when given freely.

4. Flirting is an art that should be used every now and then
Flirting truth is, can get you favors. It can make people nicer to you. It is an art that should be used subtly every now and then to make situations run smoother.

5. Expectations are not always in line with reality
We tend to expect something totally different while in reality, it is a whole other story. We have to find a balance between expectation and reality to reduce the risk of disappointments. We should learn to open our eyes and see things for what they really are and not get caught up in our little bauble of imagination.

6. Real friends will show up uninvited
Real friends do not usually ask permission to do something before they do it. They only inform you of what they are doing while they are in the process of doing it. This shows that real friends are not afraid to piss you off because they know that you'd love them anyway. They also have a 5th sense about when and when not to show up. Because whenever they are needed the most, they just show up, uninvited.

7. Trust your gut-feeling
There’s a reason why it’s called a “gut-feeling”, you feel it in your gut that it is right and what you feel is right you should follow. Many times we have ignored this feeling and end up regretting the choice we made. Do not ignore this feeling, instead, contemplate it and if deemed correct, follow it.

8. Everything happens for a reason
There is always a reason for everything that happens. We may not see it or realize it now, but in time, we will see/ realize this reason. We may not always understand this reason but has to be acknowledged and if possible, accepted.

9.  “It’s not about what you have; it’s what other people have”
This is a quote from Maid in Manhattan. It has stuck to me ever since I heard it. I found it funny at first and then slowly, I realized how true it was. Sometimes, we have to let other people help us. I hate to be a leech but seriously, if they’re offering help, take it. It was given, you did not ask for it.

10. Sadness can be distracted
Sadness doesn’t go away over night; it ebbs away at a very slow pace. Sadness can be forgotten for a while if distracted. I prefer to be distracted whenever I am feeling sad because I do not like dealing with the emotion.

11. Blood is not always thicker than water
Family ties are not always tight. Oftentimes, they are loose. Nuff said.

12. When one door closes, another opens
Opportunities will always present itself when least expected, so do not lose hope. We have to realize that there will always be opportunities for us; we just have to come prepared.

13. God always answer prayers
We sometimes feel that God has been unfair with us because he has not responded to our prayers, but in reality, He has already answered our prayers. All prayers are answered, maybe not just in a way that is obvious, but all are answered. We just need greater understanding.

Stolen

As a child I loved the rain,
Sitting at my favorite spot,
Sipping something warm,
Waiting for my mom,
Imagining how things could be.
15 years has passed,
And the child now grown,
Still loved the rain.
Listening to the sound of water on pavement,
Keeping herself warm,
Thinking when she'd again meet her mom
Imagining how things could have been.

Alone

When I'm sitting in solitude in darkness

I reach out and hope to grab hold

Something. Someone.

Just don't let me be alone

I can't take this silence

I can't bear the darkness

The cold is seeping through to my soul

I don't want to be alone

I'm tired of waiting in darkness

I wan't to break free and see the light

This darkness has corrupted my empty soul

Unveil the masked innocence

The Pathetically Poetic Dreamer

My mind wanders to starry skies
I poise my pen over paper
Waiting for the words to flow
But nothing
The usual thought vomit is absent
I chain senseless words together
Hoping for a literary masterpiece
But none comes
A writer with nothing to write
The life of a pathetically poetic dreamer

A Letter to Myself for the December 2011 NLE

Hey Dreamer!

We’ve come a long way. Now is not the time to give up. So many things have happened that may deter us from our goal of going on top. But there’s hope, the road has not yet ended, there are still a few remaining miles, let us use these remaining miles to make that great leap that will thrust us into the stars. Dreaming has been a big part of our life; this is the dream! Do not give up on the dream! I know that losing our inspiration, our reason, our mom, was the hardest but this is what she wanted. The road to becoming a nurse was the path that she wanted us to take. Let us promise, to do our best, to reach for the stars and give her one more reason to be happy. She’s the reason that we’ve come this far and she will be forever the star that will guide us to greatness. Let this be a closure. Do your best to make her proud. We may not reach the level that she has reached in her lifetime but we will do our best to uphold her name. She is forever the reason behind the existence of this dream.

I believe that we will not fail because we want this for all the right reasons. We’re doing this to help. We want to make a change and impact other with our care and concern. Failure is NEVER AN OPTION. I know that you know that the biggest hindrance right now is myself and nothing else. We have to pull our act together and get it right!

No pressure. Just us, Him and Mama on the day of the exam. Just us and no one else. We can do this! I believe in this! Now is the time to make the dream come true and make it into a daily reality. Hold on, be strong and keep faith. We can do this! We are the best! We’ve done all we could. Don’t let the dream die. Never lose faith. We can do this!

As Majorem Dei Gloriam!
